How long do you keep grow bags in mushroom supplies? ›

You will store you bag until it is 20-40% colonized (20-40% covered in white mycelium). If Using Liquid Culture: Store your bag for about 1-3 weeks. If Using Spores: Store your bag for about 2-4 weeks.

How long can you keep mushroom culture? ›

Store syringe or jar in a sealed bag in the fridge. Keep at 35-46°F (2-8°C); do not freeze. Use within 6 months; can last up to 12 months or more.

Do mushroom kits keep producing? ›

Are mushroom growing kits reusable? Mushroom kits are not reusable, but most of them produce at least 2 harvests' worth of mushrooms. This means that you can get multiple harvests out of a single kit before needing to replace it.

How long does mushroom substrate last? ›

Store your 50/50 substrate in a cool and dry location. 50/50 substrate can keep for up to 4 months in these conditions. There will be no need to rehydrated or sterilize the products a second time. If you need to store the product longer it can be refrigerated for up to 6 months and frozen for up to 1 year.

When to break up a mushroom grow bag? ›

After about 4-8 weeks, you should start to see mycelium growing on the substrate. You'll notice the white mycelium growing outward from the point of injection. When the mycelium has grown three to four inches, without opening the bag, carefully break up the colonized substrate and mix it into the uncolonized substrate.

Mobility and Durability

You can start a plant in a smaller grow bag and move it to a larger grow bag as the plant reaches maturity. Grow bags are predicted to last 7 to 8 seasons, but with good care, they can last for much longer. Grow bags' fabric is pressed together, not woven, which increases their durability.
